VIC-20 CASSETTE TAPE CREATION Tools: WAV-PRG program for Windows (can run in Linux under WINE), Audacity cassette deck, Datasette, audio cable, tapes, external USB soundcard (if on Apple hardware) To make a tape for the VIC-20 datasette: 1) WAV-PRG settings: Fast (Turbo) or Slow, VIC NTSC, output WAV Inverse wave (very important), sine wave (seems better than square) 44.1 K sample, level 254 2) Audacity/PC settings: PC speaker 70%, Audacity output 70%, cassette deck 1/4 volume. In Linux ALSAMIXER, vol of USB soundcard out to 75%, use AUX jack on deck to record. To read in a tape made on the VIC-20: 1) Cassette deck volume at 20%; PC mic 0 dB boost, 70% level; Audacity 100% record lvl. 2) Record in Audacity as WAV. Use WAV-PRG to convert to .PRG file for emulator, etc.
