A Note on Getting a CompactFlash Card Adapter

I got my Type 1 CF card adapter from Proto Advantage (https://www.proto-advantage.com/store/). The thing you want is in the Connector Adapters section. If nothing else, you can see what the adapter looks like and then go find something else you like better (or is cheaper, especially if you're not in North America), but I found it a very good value.

What I like about this one is the wire-wrap-length pins on the adapter for easy installation, whether you're soldering directly to a PCB, or actually wire wrapping the circuit. Sparkfun used to have this type of thing, but no longer.

Most other plain, unpopulated PCBs require you to solder the very tiny surface mount-style pins on the loose CF holder, and I just can't do a good job with SMC; it's through-hole for these old eyes and not-so-steady-as-they-once-were hands. :^)
